Opening Keynote Panel: Integrating Violence Prevention into Higher Education.
Karen Ridd, Professor, Menno Simons College, a college of the Canadian Mennonite University, affiliated with the University of Winnipeg. She has worked in the area of nonviolence throughout North America and abroad in such countries as El Salvador, Guatemala, Colombia, Thailand and Cambodia. Her work with Peace Brigades International has won her numerous awards, including the 1992 Governor-General's 125th Anniversary Medal. She will examine how nonviolent practices can be incorporated into the classroom to promote a participatory learning community.
